Some national park trails offer unexpected twists. This short route is 1.5 miles out and back, but after walking through grassy meadows into a canyon, hikers arrive at a log ladder that climbs the rock face at about a 45-degree angle. The exciting 50-step ascent ends with a walk across a ledge to The Notch and its scenic views.
