This city along the Santa Ana River was founded in 1857 by German settlers as a vineyard-and-citrus colony. Its name is a blending of “Santa Ana” with “heim,” the German word for “home.” Disneyland opened here in 1955 and reshaped the local economy away from agriculture and around tourism. Often called, the “City of Kindness,” it is the most populous city in Orange County.
