Once known for privateering, this town played a key role in the American Revolution, supplying ships and sailors. It is home to one of the oldest yacht clubs in the country and is often considered the birthplace of the American Navy. Among its narrow streets and colonial architecture, nearly 300 pre-Revolutionary homes still stand, including the Jeremiah Lee Mansion, a lavish 1768 Georgian estate.
