One of the country’s busiest airports is located outside of downtown Chicago. Its airport code, ORD, honors its past as Orchard Field Airport and today it bears the name of Lieutenant Commander “Butch” O’Hare, the first naval aviator recipient of the Medal of Honor. Expanded and redesigned, this one-time manufacturing base during World War II is renowned for its architectural design.
