Through the remote wilderness of Southwest Alaska, a 75 mile river winds west from Kukaklek Lake in Katmai National Park and Preserve to Bristol Bay. The Pacific salmon species and arctic char in its waters, the berries that grow along its banks, and the caribou and other mammals drawn to its shores have supported native residents across the rugged Alaska Peninsula for thousands of years.
