Planning a trip? Check out the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge website.
The unique topography and ecology of Alaska’s smallest national wildlife refuge was forged over time by glaciers, volcanoes, and marine deposition. Today, Izembek’s 310,000 acres provide critical habitat for wildlife including brown bears, furbearers, marine mammals, shorebirds, and seabirds. The Izembek Lagoon’s extensive eelgrass bed supports thousands of migrating waterfowl each year.
