Originally a Roman fortress named Deva Victrix, this city is most recognized for its preserved walls and Britain’s largest Roman amphitheater. The half-timbered galleries of the Chester Rows are a distinct example of a medieval shopping complex and are considered the blueprint for modern malls. The city’s Eastgate Clock, installed in 1899, is thought to be one of the UK’s most photographed.
