Opened in 1925 as Cleveland’s municipal airfield, it later took the name of city manager William R. Hopkins. This airport pioneered the split-level terminal with arrivals below and departures above and its early runway lighting helped shape how U.S. air traffic is managed after dark. Beyond the air, the concourses double as rotating Ohio art galleries.
