Born as a railroad beach stop nicknamed “New Town,” it opened its first hotel, the Seaside Inn, in 1901. This 60-mile arc of sand known as the Grand Strand has turned city-sized boardwalk vibes into one of the Southeast’s best-known beach vacation destinations. Its Apache Pier reaches 1,206 feet into the ocean, while the Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade links arcades, beaches, and seafood shacks.
