Newberry Caldera is the collapsed remains of Newberry Volcano after its last large eruption about 65,000 years ago. East Lake and Paulina Lake formed inside it from snowmelt. There are several lava flows from smaller eruptions, including Big Obsidian Flow, just 1,300 years old. Paulina Peak is the highest along the rim at 7,984 feet.
