Planning a trip? Check out the American Camp website.
American forces maintained a strategic camp on San Juan Island during the tensions of the never-fought Pig War. Eight companies from four regiments served here over fourteen years under less-than-ideal conditions. Surviving structures include a laundress and officers’ quarters and the Redoubt, an earthen fortress with views of the Olympics.
