Planning a trip? Check out the Sycamore Shoals State Park website.

The Carter Mansion, ca. 1780, was the home of Col. John Carter, an early settler from Tidewater Virginia. It was later the home of Brigadier Gen. Landon Carter and his wife Elizabeth Maclin Carter, namesakes of Carter County and Elizabethton, TN. With 90 percent of the home’s interior original to the 1700’s, it is a gem of historic preservation.
