Maple trees play very important roles in the lives of Vermonters. Their annual displays of multi-colored leaves attracts visitors from near and far. In late winter “sugar makers” tap their trees and collect the sap that runs as the days warm. Next, the sap is boiled, filtered, bottled and poured over millions of pancakes nationwide. Vermont supplies half of America’s annual maple syrup inventory.
