This site 30 miles northeast of Asheville along the Blue Ridge Parkway is home to Mount Mitchell, a peak boasting the highest elevation east of the Mississippi River. Visitors take the road or hiking trails to the summit, where a short path leads to an observation deck offering panoramic views as far as 85 miles. Other park amenities include museum exhibits and a seasonal restaurant.
