This branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum is located steps from the White House. The architectural showpiece was nicknamed “The American Louvre” when it opened in 1859. On display are works of U.S. craft artists dating back as far as the 19th century and created with materials including fiber, wood, metal and glass.
