Standing at Lake Michigan’s north breakwater, this 66-foot tower guards the harbor entrance east of Navy Pier. It was built in 1893 for the World’s Columbian Exposition and moved here in 1919. It once held a third-order Fresnel lens that guided ore boats and freighters. Now both a Chicago Landmark and a National Historic Place, it remains an iconic feature on the city’s stunning skyline.
