For 40 years, America’s first president lived on land along the Potomac originally purchased by his family in 1674. He expanded the plantation and mansion over time, both of which are now restored to their 1799 appearance. Martha and George Washington’s tombs, a living-history pioneer farm, outbuildings, a museum and education center, and gardens are among the areas open for tours.
