This South Dakota-class battleship nicknamed,“Big Mamie” completed 3.5 years of active service and is renowned for her participation in the invasion of North Africa, including sinking enemy ships in Casablanca, and bombarding targets in the Pacific during World War II. Today she is one of five National Historic Landmarks in “America’s Fleet Museum.”
