The second-largest seals in the world, northern elephant seal males can grow to 16 feet in length and weigh 5,000 pounds. The viewing area at this preserve on California’s Central Coast offers excellent year-round observation of these homely aquatic mammals, whose numbers soar well into the thousands from January through May.
