Three historic lighthouses stand guard over a coastline where mariners once were on the lookout for pirates such as the notorious Blackbeard. The Chicamacomico Life Saving Station invites visitors to explore the area’s rich maritime history. The site’s star attraction is about 70 miles of pristine beaches where visitors stroll, swim, surf, fish and hunt for shells. Wildlife viewing also is popular.
