Planning a trip? Check out the Savage Gulf State Park website.
Once used by Native peoples as a passageway, this 10-foot wide by 100-foot deep crack looks like a door left ajar connecting the top of the escarpment to the gorge below. Today, the Great Stone Door is one of Savage Gulf’s premier geologic attractions. An easy 1.9-mile out-and-back trail delivers hikers to several scenic overlooks atop the bluffs.
