The Green and Yampa rivers join up in Echo Park to flow as the Green past Steamboat Rock. Famed explorer John Wesley Powell named the towering geologic feature and Echo Park during his 1869 expedition. For 10,000 years this desert oasis has been a popular stop for humans and today is enjoyed by campers, hikers, and river rafters.
