J. Alden Weir was an American Impressionist painter born in 1852. Studying art in France, Weir was at first a staunch critic of French Impressionist paintings. As time progressed, he began embracing Impressionism. In 1882, Weir purchased the farm and began using the surrounding landscapes for inspiration. He referred to his farm as the ‘Great Good Place.’
