There is just one access to the shoreline of this crystal-clear lake that occupies a caldera atop volcanic Mount Mazama: a steep 1.1-mile-one-way trail downhill through Cascade Range scenery. The payoffs include fishing for trout and kokanee salmon, a boat tour on one of the world’s deepest lakes and a swim in the chilly water.
