America's third president no doubt would approve of the monument honoring his many contributions to a young democracy. Neoclassical architecture was a personal favorite. One of the capital city's more familiar memorials is located in the Tidal Basin, where the fabled cherry trees burst into bloom each spring. Jefferson's 19-foot-tall bronze statue gazes north toward the White House.
