Before the development of the Reservoir, the Elk River main channel was used for farming, recreation, milling and more. However, the river was difficult to cross and required “fords” to transport people and equipment. The Tims family made a business of such work. Today, the most scenic part of the reservoir honors the sacrifice of past relocated communities.
