The “River of Grass” slowly flows south through the park to Florida Bay, but this vast and diverse wilderness also is home to coastal mangroves, forested hammocks, pinelands, cypress trees and huge populations of birds and alligators. Visitors enjoy trail hikes, ranger-led “slough slogs,” saltwater and freshwater fishing and watercraft adventures in the Wilderness Waterway.
