This 1848 structure guided ships past the treacherous reefs of the Keys until it was decommissioned in 1969. Its original Fresnel lens, visible for 15 miles, is now on display in the museum. The keeper’s quarters house artifacts and exhibits that explore the lives of the keepers, including a Civil War-era woman who maintained the light alone.
