Limestone tufa towers are prime attractions at these unique preserves. Salt and minerals carried by Sierra Nevada streams accumulate in this ancient lake that has no outlet, making its water more than twice as dense as ocean saltwater. Visitors enjoy interpretive tours, lakefront walks and watching the millions of migratory birds who feed and rest in the reserve.
