The last major eruption of Oregon’s highest peak, a dormant stratovolcano, occurred in the 1790s. At 11,239 feet, Mt. Hood is known for its 12 named glaciers, year-round skiing, and more than 1,000 miles of hiking trails. Nestled within the Mt. Hood National Forest, trail difficulty and scenery varies between alpine lakes, rivers, and wildflower meadows.
