Planning a trip? Check out the Gateway Arch National Park website.
This iconic 19th-century building that once was the tallest structure in downtown St. Louis played a major role in civil rights history. It was the site of two Dred Scott trials, hundreds of other “freedom suits” and Virginia Minor’s unsuccessful lower court bid for women’s voting rights. Visitors tour exhibits and restored courtrooms.
