Completed in 1889, this National Historic Landmark symbolized a fresh start after the Civil War and houses the General Assembly and executive branch. The limestone and marble Neoclassical-style Capitol rests on 5 acres atop Capitol Square watched over by the Miss Freedom statue. The Georgia gold dome rises 237 feet from the ground to the tip of her torch and is an iconic element of the skyline.
