Between 1838 and 1839, the US government forcefully displaced the Cherokee Nation and thousands of other Indigenous Peoples from their ancestral homelands in the Southeast to Oklahoma. The Trail of Tears follows this sorrowful piece of American history where many people died as a consequence of relocation, cold, and hunger.
