The only Capitol with five domes is located on a hilltop east of the Des Moines River. Rectangular in shape, the building’s gold-leaf gilded center dome is 275 feet high and flanked by four smaller copper-covered domes in each corner. The Iowa Statehouse includes offices of the Governor, General Assembly, and several state officials, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
