The Civil War battle fought here on January 19, 1862, was a decisive Union victory when the North sorely needed one. Confederate General Felix Zollicoffer was killed in the lighting, and his body was placed under an oak in the monument site that now bears his name. Visits include a road tour and structures that played roles in the struggle.
