Mark Island and its iconic lighthouse complex are private property and not open to the public, but are as much a part of the Down East landscape as nearby Cadillac Mountain. The 1850s tower, the keeper’s home and the boathouse are best viewed from a boat. Some residents who lived on the island surrounded by the sights and sounds of the sea wrote books about their experiences.
