From 1828 to 1867, seven Northern Plains tribes traded goods with the American Fur Company at this fur trading post on the upper Missouri River. The Assiniboine, Plains Cree, Arikara, Blackfeet, Hidatsa, Plains Chippewa, and Mandan traded buffalo robes and various furs for goods including beads, cloth, guns, ammunition, and cookware.
