The nation’s first archaeological reserve, designated in 1892, preserves the four-story “Big House” ruins and several other structures built around 1350. Located in the Gila River Valley and attributed to the ancient Sonoran Desert people, these ruins belonged to linked farming settlements and irrigation canals, but its original function is still unknown.
