Planning a trip? Check out the Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument website.

Emmett Till was 14 years old in 1955 when the Chicago youth was lynched while visiting relatives in Mississippi. His mother chose to allow open-casket viewings of his tortured body, inspiring several luminaries to civil rights activism. The monument includes a courthouse and interpretive center in Mississippi and a church in Illinois.
