Initially established to protect the elk population here, this prairie park near Edmonton now also serves as a vital refuge for bison herds, North America’s largest land mammals. Its open grasslands and wetlands still support elk, moose, and over 250 bird species. The park balances public access with successful rewilding projects that have helped restore bison populations once near extinction.
