These 122 protected acres along Cortez’s southern rim preserve archaeological remains from Pueblo communities dating to at least A.D. 900. Seven ecological zones meet across piñon-juniper woodlands, sagebrush, and sandstone cliffs rich with desert wildlife. Miles of trails now wind through the preserve, connecting its ancient human history with the living high-desert landscape of the Four Corners.
