Opened in 1928 on a desert tract, it earned the “harbor in the sky” nickname as an oasis-like stop for early airline routes. This is where a Ford Tri-Motor made one of its first departures. It has also hosted Phoenix’s official National Weather Service climate station since 1953. Inside, art and aviation exhibits are rotated throughout the concourses.
