Named after the Smithsonian’s eighth secretary, this subterranean structure on the National Mall is accessed through a domed above-ground entrance that belies the building’s offerings. Visitors descend to a complex that includes the Discovery Theater, an exhibition hall and offices. The Ripley Center is connected underground with the Sackler Asian art gallery and the African art museum.
