Construction of the nation’s second oldest State House still in use concluded in 1799 and subsequent additions in various architectural styles expanded this contributing property of the State House Historic District. Overlooking the Delaware River with a view directly into Pennsylvania, the centerpiece of the structure is a 145-foot dome covered in copper and 48,000 pieces of gold leaf.
