Named for King George II of England in 1755, the “Queen of American Lakes” features 109 miles of shoreline. Three forts, including the now replicated Fort William Henry, once supported operations during the French and Indian War. A bustling lumber industry drove the area’s expansion and is now a vacation haven known for its scenic cruises, snow sports, festivals, and Adirondack Mountain hiking.
