This rugged landscape of pinnacles, buttes, spires, canyons, prairie grasslands and abundant wildlife is best viewed during hikes and Loop Road tours. It once was roamed by saber-toothed cats, rhinos and creatures linked to today’s horses and pigs. Their remains are part of a rich fossil collection visitors can discuss with working paleontologists in the park’s Fossil Preparation Lab.
