On September 13 and 14, 1814, American defense of the fort during a British bombardment inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem that would become this country’s national anthem. The fort, flags, weaponry, artifacts and exhibits tell the stories of the War of 1812 and Key’s work. Visitors enjoy strolling and biking along the sea wall trail.
