When fog fills the basin, this island in the cold, deep-blue Crater Lake water takes on the aura of a ghostly phantom ship. A 0.8-mile loop trail leading to Sun Notch, a glacial valley carved into the caldera rim, takes hikers from its Rim Drive trailhead to some of the park’s finest views of Phantom Ship, one of the mountain lake’s two islands.
