Charles Strausenback was as rooted to this fabled park as Balanced Rock, an iconic landform near the store he and his wife, Esther, opened in 1929. The entrepreneurs encouraged Native American artists and artisans to sell their wares at the business, which expanded to become the state’s largest art gallery/gift shop. Shoppers also enjoy meals at Balanced Rock Cafe and pan for gemstones.
