World War II combat came to North America in 1942 when Japanese forces invaded and occupied two of the Aleutian Islands. U.S. forces re-took Attu and Kiska in 1943. This site interprets the Aleutian Campaign and its impacts on the Unangax people, many of whom were forced to endure relocation and harsh conditions.
